Telecom executive is newest MFI trustee

The Board of Trustees of MFI Foundation recently voted Next Mobile CEO Mel Velarde as its newest trustee.  

At age 46, Velarde is MFI’s youngest trustee and he brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector. He is the owner of Velarde Inc., a company he founded in 1999 that focuses on operating, buying, transforming and selling companies in TMT.

Velarde formerly served as executive vice president and general manager of Sky Cable from 1991 to 1997. He was also appointed in 2003 as the Philippine commissioner to UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organizations) where he is chairman of the UNESCO Committee on Science and Technology.
